Adega Ponte da Barca

Collection: Adega Ponte da Barca

Adega Ponte da Barca is a cooperative winery founded in 1963 and operating since 1968, located in the heart of Portugal's Vinho Verde region, in the Lima sub-region within Alto Minho. It was established as a community cooperative, now uniting approximately 1100 local winegrowers across the municipalities of Ponte da Barca and Arcos de Valdevez, sharing the traditions and strengths of the region's vineyards.

The total area of the vineyards is approximately 850-900 hectares, located in the picturesque valleys of the Lima, Vez, and Vade rivers on granite-based soil – an area shaped by the climatic influence of the Atlantic Ocean, characterized by abundant rainfall, cooling sea breezes, and mild winters, which provide ideal conditions for the fresh and aromatic style characteristic of Vinho Verde.

Historically, this area has over 2000 years of viticultural tradition, with grapes first introduced by the Romans.

The winery is a cooperative, meaning its spirit and operation are built on community and local participation, giving it a distinctive regional identity rather than a family narrative.

The winery is currently managed by José Oliveira, a winemaker born and raised in Ponte da Barca. During his tenure, the cooperative has modernized while retaining its authentic regional character. Oliveira, who graduated in Biological Engineering from the University of Minho in 1997, has worked here as laboratory manager, quality manager, and for more than 15 years as executive director and head of winemaking and strategic planning.

Adega Ponte da Barca produces a wide range of wines under the Vinho Verde designation: white, rosé, red, sparkling, sweet wines, fortified wines, and even brandy.

The white version of the Estreia line is a blend of Loureiro, Arinto, and Trajadura grape varieties, offering citrus minerality, the freshness of green apple, and a slight effervescence that accentuates its liveliness.

Other significant grape varieties include Alvarinho, Vinhão, and Sauvignon Blanc, which allow the winery to produce more complex white, rosé, and red wines that reflect both tradition and modern taste preferences.

Many of their wines have won national and international awards, and the brand exports to markets such as Japan, Germany, Brazil, and Russia.
