Cruzeiro do Lima DOC Vinho Verde is one of the most famous wines of the Vinhos Norte family winery. The winery was founded in 1971 by the Carvalho Lima family in northern Portugal, in the heart of the Vinho Verde wine region.
Now run by the third generation, the business has become a dominant producer in the region over the past decades by combining traditional Portuguese winemaking with modern technology.
Vinho Verde is not a wine, but Portugal's northernmost wine region, located between the green hills of the Minho province, close to the Atlantic Ocean. The cooler, rainy climate and granitic soils result in wines with vibrant acidity, fresh fruitiness, and exceptional freshness.
The name "vinho verde" does not refer to the color of the wine, but to its youthful character: these wines are usually bottled relatively soon after harvest to preserve their natural freshness and aromas.
It is no coincidence that Vinho Verde is one of the most popular wine types worldwide during the summer months. Its lower alcohol content, crisp acidity, light body, and often slightly effervescent character make it extremely refreshing even on the hottest days.
Cruzeiro do Lima DOC is a textbook vinho verde: made from a blend of three traditional Portuguese white grape varieties: Loureiro, Trajadura, and Arinto. Loureiro lends elegant floral and citrus aromas to the wine, Trajadura is responsible for fruitiness and a softer structure, while Arinto's vibrant acidity and freshness ensure the wine's crisp character. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to fully preserve the natural aromas of the grapes and the characteristic freshness of the wine region.
On the nose, tropical fruits, apple, and citrus notes appear, complemented by delicate floral hints. On the palate, it is light, lively, and harmonious, with a pleasant acid structure and a refreshing finish. The wine perfectly showcases everything that makes the Vinho Verde style so popular in Portugal and around the world.
An excellent choice as an aperitif, it also pairs wonderfully with grilled fish, seafood, salads, light summer dishes, or simply for a friendly chat on the terrace.
