The history of the Frescobaldi family has been intertwined with Tuscany and the world of wine for over seven centuries. One of the starting points of this story is Tenuta Castiglioni, located among the hills of Montespertoli near Florence – this is also where the family's classic Chianti originates.
The foundation of Castiglioni is the quintessential Chianti grape variety, Sangiovese, complemented by a small amount of Merlot. It is aged in steel tanks for six months and then rests in the bottle, allowing the fresh, fruity character of the Sangiovese to take center stage instead of oak.
A vibrant ruby red wine with intense notes of cherry, raspberry, and redcurrant, complemented by subtle floral hints. Fresh and lively on the palate, yet pleasantly soft; its tannins are firm but not heavy. A classic, highly drinkable Tuscan red where fruitiness and the characteristic freshness of Sangiovese remain beautifully balanced.
What to pair it with? Tomato-based and meat-based pastas, pappardelle al ragù, roast chicken, beef, salumi, or medium-aged cheeses. Tuscan-style, it also works perfectly alongside simple bruschetta, good olive oil, and a few slices of cured meats.
