Generally, there are two major versions of Pesto alla Genovese (and opinions are divided as to which is more delicious): with or without garlic.

This is the "delicato" version, without garlic, oherwise the ingredients are the same as in the other Modesti Pesto alla Genovese.

Indulge in the authentic flavors of Liguria with our Pesto Delicato, crafted by Modesti and rooted in Arma di Taggia, the heart of Liguria and the birthplace of pesto.

This renowned region is renowned for its superior basil, cultivated near Prà, and its exquisite olive oil, pressed from Taggiasca olives, native to Liguria.

Experience the true essence of Liguria by pairing our authentic Pesto Genovese with a bag of trofie pasta, renowned as the perfect accompaniment to pesto, available at our shop.

Beyond its traditional use with trofie or gnocchi, pesto is versatile, ideal for spreading on bruschetta and sandwiches or as a flavorful salad dressing.

In essence, Pesto Genovese, a globally acclaimed paste, combines crushed garlic (this version is without garlic), European pine nuts, coarse salt, basil leaves, and hard cheese like Parmesan or pecorino sardo, blended with olive oil. Its roots trace back to Genoa, the capital of Liguria, Italy.

The term "pesto" originates from the Genoese verb "pestâ" (Italian: pestare), meaning "to pound" or "to crush," reflecting its traditional preparation method of crushing or grinding the ingredients in a marble mortar with a wooden pestle.

Pesto is traditionally served with pasta, such as mandilli de sæa ("silk handkerchiefs" in Genoese dialect), trofie, or trenette, often accompanied by potatoes and string beans boiled in the same pot as the pasta.

Engage in conversation with locals in Liguria, and you'll quickly discover their profound connection to this cherished sauce. They'll tell you that pesto is a living tradition, thriving only in the temperate climate of its birthplace. Some may even jest that pesto is the second flavor a Genovese baby tastes, after its mother's milk.

Ingredients: D.O.P. basil 52%, extra virgin olive oil, sunflower seed oil, mature cheeses (cow's milk, salt, rennet), grana padano, cashews, potato flakes, pecorino, salt, pine nuts, sugar, acidity regulator E575.
