The Monte da Colónia family farm was founded in 1980 on rich Alentejo land in Vale de Seda by Manuel and Idalina Pereira, a young and enterprising couple.

It was wrapped in this ambition, partnership and daily commitment, that they built the family business that they are so proud of today and which continues to prosper at the hands of their children, António and Manuela Pereira.

They were always lookig for innovative processes capable of maintaining and sustaining the business areas that were created in the approximately 1000 hectares during the company's growth; which essentially involve the production and processing of locally grown products – olive oil, preserved olives, wines and the raising of cattle and sheep.

The old traditional press mill was replaced by the highly modernized cold-extraction mill, where not only the olives from the 100 hectares of olive groves on Monte da Colónia are currently processed, but also from the region's olive growers. An average of 200 to 300 thousand liters of olive oil are produced per campaign, divided into three qualities – Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Virgin Olive Oil – sold in 500ml, 2l and 5l bottles. The olive is processed urgently on the day it is harvested so that quality standards remain unchanged.

The Monte da Colónia olive grove has different olive varieties, namely 50% Cobrançosa, 40% Galega and 10% other varieties. Besides making olive oil, these olives are also used to make canned olives, prepared in the traditional way and sold in various packages from 250 g to 5 kg.

The success in the viticulture activity was undoubtedly one of the best rewards the family received for having risked, invested and believed in the entire process of growth and business innovation over the last 20 years. Currently, with all the necessary equipment, they are able to follow the entire process of creation and growth of each of their wines, always striving for quality that imperatively results in nectars with a very strong character and personality.

Of the 20 hectares occupied by the vineyards of the varieties – Aragonez, Cabernet Sauvignon, Arinto, Alicante Bouschet, Castelão, Syrah, Trincadeira, Verdelho and Touriga Nacional; an average of 100 thousand liters of Red Wine are produced, divided into several references – Entry range, Selected Colheira, Syrah Monovariety, Touriga Nacional, Escolha and Reserva.

10 thousand liters of White Wine with the varieties – Arinto, Roupeiro, among others; 6 thousand liters of Rosé Wine with the variety – Touriga Nacional; and still Sparkling Brut which, combined with the soil, the climate, the union and dedication of the family, its employees and the knowledge of the winemaker Rui Vieira, guarantee the fullness of Monte da Colónia wines.
